FREE Write the Room Pack and More Literacy Activities

When I started by blog two years ago, I detailed a year's worth of  Literacy Work Stations. You can find them all {here}
 Last year I blogged about other things, because I mostly did the same literacy centers over again.

This year I have {hopefully} made life easier for myself by offering Literacy Work Stations that are more 'permanent'. They are still different every round {by theme/season/increased difficulty}, but not in HOW they are done. This will allow for more learning time: less time explaining the activities and more time to work on them!Best of all, they spiral through the year, so students keep coming back to core learning skills as they extend their knowledge!
A full year of Kindergarten Literacy Centers: spiraled through 5 domains of writing, reading, listening, alphabet/phonemic awareness, and word work.
Then, I planned a year's worth of rounds that have 5 stations each which include these skills:
1)Writing 2)Listening to reading 3) Word work (sight words) 4) Phonics/alphabet 5) Phonemic awareness
The packs are laid out, week by week, for the entire month. They include 5 stations for students to rotate through per week, with all of the components you’ll need for each activity.
Assessment tools are included to help keep learning on track and to keep your students accountable.
Learning is spiraled throughout the month, to help students build on their prior learning.
Check out the first pack in the series {here}

So here is our first round of Literacy Activities for the year!
I have 15 students, so I have made groups of 3 students and 5 different activities.

Students work at their center for 30 minutes. They do one station per day, then rotate to the next one on the next day.

As soon as they've done all five, I introduce five new activities. Since most stations will be done in the same way {just with different material}, introducing round 2 will be so much easier!
READ & WRITE THE ROOM
FREE write the room pack to practice letter recognition and printing!
Read & Write the Room is one permanent station. Each round a new set of letters/words/student names will be posted for students to find and copy onto a recording sheet.

In this first round, students are searching for letters of the alphabet.

A full year of Kindergarten Literacy Centers: spiraled through 5 domains of writing, reading, listening, alphabet/phonemic awareness, and word work.

Remember this pocket chart that I had used for mail {that was too confusing for my students to use}? Well, I have re-purposed it to my Writing Center area. Each pocket holds a different writing activity and its components. Later on in the year my students will get to choose a writing activity, but for now we are working on these alphabet handwriting books by Michelle Rist {here}

WORD WORK CENTER: NAMES
A full year of Kindergarten Literacy Centers: spiraled through 5 domains of writing, reading, listening, alphabet/phonemic awareness, and word work.
For our first round of name activities, I have once again put my students' names on my 2 steel doors. Students use magnetic letters to spell their classmates' names! See {here} for a previous posting about this activity.

I am no longer working with small groups as the activities take place. This allows me the freedom to assist groups where necessary and to assess how they are doing.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am at a new school and we have regular developmental centers in the morning and the literacy centers at the end of the day. The end of the day centers are a nightmare. Possibly because its the end of the day and you can't squeeze any more quiet out of them! Anyway I am really having to rethink how I work things in the afternoon and your post helps alot!
