Gingerbread Man Mania!- Literacy Edition

My students are having sooo much fun with the Gingerbread Man this week!

Each day we read a different version of the story, then fill in this story comparison chart:

This picture gives a bit of perspective on the size of the chart:

During read aloud/story time I read yet another version of the Gingerbread Man, but we don't really delve into them as much as we do with the versions I read during Guided Reading.

Here are some Gingerbread literacy activities we've been enjoying this week:

ABC ORDER
Students put the alphabet flashcards in order on a pocket chart.

LETTER MATCH
Matching uppercase & lowercase letters on a pocket chart.

SYLLABLE SORTING

Students sorted the gingerbread/Christmas pictures into groups by their number of syllables...

...then fill out the syllable worksheet.

RHYMING

Students matched picture cards of rhyming words.

BEGINNING SOUNDS

Using letter tiles and/or magnetic letters, students put the beginning letter of each picture onto the mats.

LETTER SORTING

Students sorted through a box of magnetic letters and/or letter tiles and matched them to the letters on the mats.

WRITE THE ROOM
Using the picture cards from the syllable activity, students searched the room for Christmas words, then wrote the words onto their write-the-room form.

All of these activites can be found {here}.
