Aphabet Centre

We have begun a book study this week, based on the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. This book is a great springboard for tying in alphabet learning and literacy.
I have had these collecting dust in my closet for probably 2 years:
I just didn't know what I could do with alphabet bean bags...but I took them out of storage and came up with this Literacy Activity Centre:
Students lay alphabet flashcards around the carpeted area of the classroom. Then they take the beanbags and, taking turns, toss their beanbag onto the flashcard that has the same letter as their beanbag.
This activity is great on so many levels: letter matching, hand-eye coordination, physical activity, and cooperation-- all in one centre.
I would LOVE to know if you have any other great ideas for these alphabet bean bags...just post in the comments below!

Hi Anita! I have letter bean bags in my room and we play a really fun game that we call Who Let the Letters Out. We make a circle and I take a hula hoop and place it in the middle of the circle. I give each child two bean bags, and then divide the rest between my associate and myself (I teach 4 year old prek and I only have 11 in my class, and two bean bags are all they can handle at one time!) Then I play the song "Who letter the letters out" by Dr. Jean- it;s on her Kiss Your Brain CD. Then, we take turns tossing our bean bags into the hoop as the song sings the letter. If you are not familiar with this song it is to the tune of Who let the Dogs Out! So the song says "Who let the A out a/a/a/a" and the child that has the A tosses it into the hoop! They LOVE this game and want to play it everday! I like your idea also and think I will totally try it out!

I have used these in my room. I have the kids sit in a circle and toss a beanbag to someone else. When you catch the beanbag, you say a word that starts with that letter.

I can't wait to hear other ideas!

Thanks for this...I have had the Number bean bags in a closet for about 3 years, and now I know what to do with them!

I use them for the Hap Palmer song, "Marching around the Alphabet."
