FREE Back to School Teacher Checklists!

Well, my summer is officially at the half-way point!
 I have been enjoying my family, reading, and not thinking about school 'too' much :)
I did put together a nice little freebie for teachers who are prepping for back to school...
FREE Teacher Back to School Lists! #freebie #teaching #backtoschool
It includes 11 pages to help you remember what you'll need to begin your school year! Click the button below for the link.

I have also been VERY busy over at my TPT shop! I've revamped nearly ALL of my Freebies. If you have downloaded any in the past, it's time to head on over to re-download the "facelifted" versions!
I have also redone most of my products! I added activities, fixed up the fonts and added new graphics. If you have ever purchased anything from me in the past, you may want to see if you have the new and improved item!

And I have added lots of NEW products too! Here is a detailed look at a few of them:

'I Can' Statements for Second Grade Literacy and Math:

I also put the Literacy & Math Packs together as a Money-Saving Bundle!

I made some Interactive Notebooks for young learners!

I put the Alphabet and Number Interactive Notebooks together to create a Money-Saving Bundle!

I made a fun and engaging book study for Sneezy the Snowman!

 I always get SO many requests for editable schedule cards and classroom labels, so I made these two sets- they are 100% EDITABLE!

Another BIG unit I put together is this one All About Canada, perfect for kids in Grades 1-3!

Phew! Time for a break :) Just kidding! Back to creating :)

5 Tips for Getting Your Classroom Ready for Back to School!

5 Tips for Getting Your Classroom Ready for Back to School! #backtoschool #classroom #classroomdecor #classroomorganization #organization #teachertips #teacherhacks #classroomsetup
Don't want to think about it yet?
Me neither :)
But it's coming. For some of us, sooner than later.
So I thought I would post my top 5 tips to classroom set-up.
5 Tips for Getting Your Classroom Ready for Back to School! #backtoschool #classroom #classroomdecor #classroomorganization #organization #teachertips #teacherhacks #classroomsetup
I have been teaching for a loooong time. These words of advice come from experience. And they apply to any grade level!

Make one bulletin board in your classroom a Focus Board. {It can also be called an Objective Board}. On it, hang anchor charts that show what your class is learning, especially in the core subjects. They'll serve as visual reminders for your students, reminding them what they need to focus on for the week.
{See my previous post about Focus Boards here}

This is important, no matter what grade you teach. Your littlest learners will benefit from being exposed to language, and you could add graphics to help them make the connection too. Of course, older students will be able to read the labels. But no matter what, it will serve its purpose- things will go back where they belong!

I know that 'cute' classrooms get a lot of flak. But who wouldn't want to learn in a space that is inviting! I am convinced that inviting classrooms are more conducive to learning than spaces that don't feel comfortable. And you don't need to spend a fortune to make your room cozy...there are always yard sales and donations where you'll find things that work great!

This may sound like common sense, but it needs to be said. You will save yourself lots of time spent helping students find what they need. You are also helping your students learn responsibility and self-sufficiency. When students can quickly and easily get the tools that they need to learn, there is more time to spend on the actual learning!

You spend a lot of hours, every weekday, in the classroom. Make sure you take some time to make it workable for you, too! Make it a space you enjoy's your second home!

Daily 5: Ideas for Each Activity

This post could also be called 'photo dump', as I clear out my camera from this past year :)

Looking at these pictures reminds me of the FANTASTIC year we've had, and how great the Daily 5 worked in our classroom!
 Here are some activities that we did for each component of Daily 5 {for even more ideas, scroll to the link at the bottom of the page}

During Daily 5, nothing made me happier than to see boys truly engaged in reading books they enjoy!

Students read to themselves...or a few friends :)

After we went through all the fluency cards, students could choose what to read to their partner(s).
Our unit on Reader's Theatre {here} sure helped with their fluency and expression!

I love how students took ownership of this activity! They wrote books {above}

and notes to each other...

and made information booklets {TONS of FREE thematic word lists can be found here}

This was one of my favourite activities to introduce to the class. We incorporated SO many ways to work on our spelling words.
In the activity above, students are writing their words in 'funky letters'.

...See how the letters go with the words?!...

So cute :)

Here students made word searches using their spelling words. When they were finished, they traded their papers with the others in their group and started searching!
These 2 activities just a small part of a great freebie pack from Mel at Seusstastic {here}

In this activity, students are finding words inside their spelling words.

Students used my iPad to listen to hundreds of great books, read online.

When the story was over, they filled in reading response forms. I had quite a selection of forms for them to choose from, to keep things interesting! This one is from Mel's set too :)
