New Teaching Tool

I was so excited to receive this in the mail
because it meant that my dry erase pockets have arrived!
My Binding contacted me to try out their dry erase pockets.
You can find them {here}.

I decided to use them for activity centers.
I love that the pockets are different colors, so I can easily tell who they belong to.
I also LOVE that they save SPACE and TIME and PAPER!

I don't have to have piles of worksheets clogging up my desk, because I just need a few copies to slip into the pockets that can be reused multiple times. I don't have to spend so much time photocopying pages because I only need a few. And they save paper too which is great for the environment!

They work great for any subject area.
Several pages are available for download from My Binding, but of course you can put your own worksheets in as well.

We did some extra practice with math facts

These mini Rewritables dry-erase markers work great with the pockets.
I LOVE the giant erasers on the end...they leave the pocket clean {I got these at Walmart}.

The pockets are heavy duty...perfect for use by young children :)

Here are some more suggestions for use, available as free downloads:
time
printing
calendar work

Thank you, My Binding, for sharing your amazing product with our class!

We started the lesson with a few books about planting seeds and seed growth:

Then did some review about what plants need to grow as well as the parts of a plant, using an anchor chart:

I had made up some labels with their names

and had them choose what seed they'd like to plant. They had to copy the name of the plant on the back of their popsicle stick,

Then it wast time to get our hands dirty {and the classroom too!}

It is created by Allison Jones, and can be found {here}
My students cut the purse template out and added the handle and some flower 'bling'.

Kindergarten Yahtzee!

I feel like I have been posting a lot of math ideas lately.
But I just can't help sharing this one- it is SOOO FUN!
KINDERGARTEN YAHTZEE
Students take turns rolling 2 dice, then add up the sum.
Kindergarten Yahtzee- a fun way to practice addition! Check post for how to play & the free download.
They find the number on their page, then check it off.

First one to check off all of their numbers WINS!

They soon learn that getting a sum of 2 or 12 is difficult, because there are less number combinations to get to that sum.

Measurement and Comparing Lengths {freebie}

My new Border collie puppy, Daisy, came for a visit to our classroom this week!
Math measurement activities for Kindergarten where students are comparing lengths plus FREE downloads!

I read Big Dog, Little Dog by P.D. Eastman and we talked about how God makes animals different sizes. The class decided that Daisy would be considered a small dog. Discussion turned to people, and how we are all different sizes too. Despite the sense that 'bigger is better', we are the perfect size for our own self, and are just-right.

I took some yarn and measured each student. I added their picture to the end, so we could see how tall everyone is.

Students used their non-standard measuring tools to find 3 things in the classroom that they are BIGGER than, and 3 things in the classroom that they are smaller than.
