'Reading' the Room Using Pointers

Read the Room activities using seasonal themed pointers in Kindergarten
This summer I have a list of ideas I'd like to incorporate more into my teaching next year. One of them is 'Reading' the Room.
Using pointers to Read the Room in the classroom & they can be switched out go with each monthly theme
Using thematic pointers to Read the Room in Kindergarten- this activity promotes active learning as they go around the classroom reading.
I have had students do this activity in the past, and they loved it. How fun to wander around the classroom, discovering letters and words and even punctuation that they recognize. And, to make it extra special, they get to use pointers...different ones every month.

My quest for the perfect holder:
Using thematic pointers to Read the Room in Kindergarten- this activity promotes active learning as they go around the classroom reading.
I looked everywhere and have tried several different containers to hold my Read the Room pointers.
This one from the Dollar Store is just perfect!

All of my pointers can be found at the Dollar Store or
craft-type stores. You could also make your own!

One that I made in the past was very simple~ I used a dowel and added feathers to the end of it for students to "tickle" the words.

  3. Oh my goodness! I love that you have themed pointers for each month! I have a large pot at the front of my room to hold all my various pointers, but I never thought of changing them out each month. Brilliant!
