I did this for many reasons. Most children came to school knowing a few of the rhymes, and this familiarity made them more comfortable- pretty important when beginning a new school year or even starting school for the first time.
I also love how Nursery Rhymes can be used to learn essential literacy and numeracy skills, such as rhyme, cause & effect, sequence of events, counting, and more!
I have created a set featuring 10 favorite Nursery Rhymes.
Here's a sneak peek:
Each rhyme includes a colored poster for teaching or display, a black and white version for coloring, a literacy activity page {the pack includes skills such as rhyme, syllables, letter recognition, ABC order, beginning sounds, ending sounds, and more}, a math activity page {the pack includes skills such as counting, patterns, sequencing, measurement using non-standard units, comparing numbers, time to the hour, number before and after, and more}, a sequence activity page, an opinion page, a text-to-self connection page, and Nursery Rhyme retell puppets.
To wrap up the unit, I've included instructions and a materials list for Nursery Rhyme Olympic games!
And of course some Olympic medals :)
You can see the Nursery Rhyme Olympics in action {here}
