Daily 5 Activities

Fun Daily 5 activities for First Grade and Second Grade
We have been BUSY in Grade 2!
This month has been a whirlwind, and planning for my workshop as well as stepping in to teach in the afternoons...on top of my regular duties has kept me hopping!

Here are a few of the Daily 5 activities we've been working on lately:
SCRABBLE SPELLING
 Students use Scrabble letter tiles to create their spelling words, then tally and add up the word's worth.
Spelling + Math in one station!

 Looks like these guys were in a 'Pete the Cat' kinda mood.

READ WITH A PARTNER {OR TWO}
Great reading practice with a few friends :)

No Tricks, Just Treats!

Fall is here!
hope you are taking some time to get out and enjoy it :)
Here is a fun fall freebie that will get you and your students (or your own children) outdoors to search for the signs of fall. It's a 'signs of fall scavenger hunt' that I made (in 2012!), and can be found {here}
FREE fall outdoor scavenger hunt- students look for signs of fall...take learning outside!
Have you read Little Boo by Steven Wunderli? It's a book about a pumpkin seed that wants to be scary...but it has to wait until it grows up first. The story takes readers through the growth stages of a pumpkin, while mirroring children's desire to do things they are too small to do, and has a cute ending.

I made a little pack to help students dig deep into the story, and you can find it {here}

If you do Halloween in your classroom, here are some hands-on activity centers that will help reinforce essential skills!
And if you don't do Halloween in your class, here is the perfect alternative! This book study goes with the book The Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs.

Happy Thanksgiving :)
To celebrate Thanksgiving, our class made these Thanksgiving flip books as a fun, hands-on way for students to reflect on the many blessings in their lives!
