We're Going On A Spring Hunt...freebie!

Signs of Spring outdoor scavenger hunt freebie for Kindergarten and First Grade
Every spring, I take my class outdoors for a signs of spring scavenger hunt.

I begin by reading We're Going On A Nature Hunt by Steve Metzger.

Then I tell my class that we're going to head outside to hunt for spring.
One boy got very excited, because he's likes to go hunting...sorry buddy, we're using clipboards, not guns :)

I pair up my students and equip them with a clipboard, a crayon, and a scavenger hunt list.
Then we head outside!

The first thing we noticed was the spring sunshine--check!

My list has an arrow pointing to each item. To 'check off' an item, they colour in the arrow. I had them take turns, to avoid arguments :)

Here are some pictures from our signs of spring search around the schoolyard:

  2. Great idea Anita! Thank you for sharing. I may have to modify it to match what we might see outside of our school, but this will be great for after my spring break when we begin our insect study. I like the idea of working in partners as I try to have my kids work in partners everyday. Thanks again!
