Rhyming Bridge {Is Falling Down}

Rhyming Bridge is Falling Down rhyme game activity for Kindergarten
This month we are reading lots of Dr. Seuss books. These books are used as a springboard to reinforce rhyme, word families, and so much more.

After reading Hop On Pop and noting the rhyming in the book, my students had fun playing rhyming bridge.
Rhyming Bridge is Falling Down...unless you can give a pair of rhyming words! Come see how to play this fun activity for Kindergarten and First Grade

It's played like London Bridge is Falling Down, and is sung to the same tune.

Two students were the 'bridge', the rest made a line-up and took turns passing under the bridge as we sang:

Rhyming bridge is falling down,
falling down,
falling down,
Rhyming bridge is falling down
My fair lady-o.

Whoever was caught in the bridge had to come up with a pair of words that rhymed before they were released.
eg. bear, chair

We continued playing until everyone had a turn getting caught & making their rhyme.

To aid those who are not yet confident in their rhyming abilities, I gave a prompt such as:
Can you think of a word that rhymes with ....

This activity was so much fun, and is a great way to reinforce phonemic awareness skills while getting up and moving around the room!

  3. I can't believe it!! I have been playing this game with my class for the last few year. The only difference is that they travel in pairs and produce a rhyming pair when caught. It goes much faster and they love it! Liz
